For some of the children, Camp is a new, never experienced environment that helps them feel physically and emotionally secure. One of the basic human needs is the need for emotional stability and a feeling of security and for those children that do not get this from parents/guardians, it is damaging. It effects their life, their psyche, their emotions, and their self-esteem, which eventually, effects all of their relationships.
"In the last 17 years, I have discovered people, especially children, need love and affirmation."
Jesus takes care of their spirit-man, but their other needs He has tasked parents, the church, you, and I to help take care of this, to be Jesus with skin on.
Society has problems and the world is shaky—and not only for adults—but this also affects children, they have anxiety too. Kids need to be around things that are sound, stable, and secure, and they need to be assured there still is a rock-solid Foundation they can build their life and future upon.
In May of 2001, we were not trying to have a camp, but school had ended and the kids needed a place to go, so, we opened the doors of the Dream Center and 30 kids came. Now, it has grown into a summer day camp, this is how CAMP DREAMS was started! This year, CAMP DREAMS is expanding the service we offer to our community and with this comes more opportunity! We are extending the hours camp operates to help parents and this opens the door to reach new families!
Camp times are as usual, but we now have the option for children to stay for extended hours if needed.
CAMP DREAMS starts in June and goes through the end of July. Two months of crazy summer fun! We are counting down everyday until we get to see those bright, excited, and smiling faces!
Until then, we are planning the activity centers: indoor games, Bible center, arts and crafts, basketball, volleyball, and outdoor activities. We have a morning and afternoon assembly, where we have a devotion, music, dramas, dancing, minute-to-win-it type games, and special entertainment.
We also have an Internship Program for youth ages 13-18. It is an opportunity for the youth to prepare for their first job. During the program, while the interns fulfill their daily duties, they will learn many new skills, such as: leadership skills, life skills, creative and critical thinking skills, communication skills, and how to follow instructions.
CAMP DREAMS truly is one of our most favorite outreaches!
